Be sure to cast your votes in the poll below; but first, let’s look at the box designs themselves.
North America
The North American version is like that classic Zelda box art: pure gold background with only the logos for A Link to the Past and Four Swords taking up all the space. Honestly, if every Zelda game was a variant of this approach, we wouldn’t have a problem with it. Unfortunately, marketing in the modern age means that at least one or two characters must be emblazoned on the cover. Sigh…
Europe
The European one is very similar to the North American design, but this time, instead of a solid gold background, the overall contrast is significantly brightened, and an image of Link himself is added to mix things up a bit. Both logos have been slightly altered to make room for the image, with the Four Swords logo being significantly reduced in size. We like this one though, despite our complaints about the inclusion of the characters earlier.
But we could do without that text at the top.
Japan
Dare we say, Japan may have actually drawn the short straw with this one. Usually the landscape orientation allows for some beautiful artwork, but this is just a little busyright? We love the contrast between the green and blue, and the main sword in the middle tops it off nicely, but there are so many links. All connections.
Thanks for voting! See you next time for another round of Box Art Brawl.
