Some of the biggest surprises at this year's Game Awards came from Japanese video game giant Capcom with the revival of classic IPs like Okami and Onimusha.
In a press release from the company on its official website, Capcom has now made it clear that this is all part of an initiative to focus on “reactivating dormant IPs” in its library that “has not had a new title in recent times.”
“The company is working to further increase corporate value by leveraging its rich content library, which includes reviving past IPs such as the two titles announced above (Omimusha, Okami), to continuously produce highly effective, high-quality titles.”
Capcom has recently released games and collections based on Ace Attorney and has even done wonders with compilations like Marvel Vs. Capcom Fighting Collection. A new Monster Hunter game is coming in 2025 more battle collection due out.
And if you're wondering about the legendary Blue Bomber Mega Man, in June of this year during a shareholder meeting, the company mentioned that it's always looking at what's next. In a poll the same month, he asked fans which series they wanted to remake – with titles like Breath of Fire in the top 5.
Another Japanese company that has been busy reviving its classic IP is Sega – with plans to bring back franchises such as Crazy Taxi, Shinobi, Jet Set Radio and even Virtua Fighter.
