The fighting game community got a huge surprise recently with Capcom’s announcement of Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics. There was a question about whether fans could see some new entries in the future, and now it seems like there is a real possibility.
Speaking in an “exclusive” chat with Dexert, collection producer Shuhei Matsumoto said that “there might be an opportunity for a new Marvel vs Capcom game.” He thinks the same about “a new SNK game based on Capcom” if fans are willing to show their support.
“The development team at Capcom has big dreams… if that were to happen, it would take some time and effort to make and release those types of games, but in the short term what we can do now is at least reintroduce these old legacy games to a new audience , to people who may not have the opportunity to play them, because they may not be available on modern or current platforms”
“…What we can at least do now is show that, hey, those series exist. We love these games. We hope you will too, and maybe in the future, if people become familiar with these series, maybe there will be opportunities to make bigger games in the future.”
Again, it all depends on how much fans of the series support the upcoming Fighting Collection. The question was also asked if there are future plans for Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 (such as return netcode) now that MvC is back, but according to the manufacturer. it’s a matter of “timing” and taking it “one step at a time”.
Matsumoto also mentions that Marvel has shown interest in tournaments like EVO and “knows that people really love the series and really want these games to be available on modern platforms.” These comments from the producers of Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection follows SNK’s announcement SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos for Switch, PlayStation and Steam.
