One of the many first-party games released on the Nintendo Switch this year was Detective Pikachu Returns, a sequel to a game released on the 3DS a few years ago. The Return of Detective Pikachu has been out for a little over 2 months, so attention is focused on the future of Detective Pikachu.
So it’s no surprise that the topic was discussed in a Famitsu interview with executive producer Tsunekazu Ishihara, writer Hiroyuki Jinnai who translated Nintendo Everything into English. Jinnai said that “the story of Tim, Pikachu and Harry will come to an end. However, since everyone on the staff loves this middle-aged talking Pikachu, there could be other events that follow different threads…?”
Meanwhile, Ishihara said that “we can’t promise anything at this point, but if Detective Pikachu Returns is well received and there’s a lot of demand from people, there could be room for more spin-offs like that.” There doesn’t seem to be a future game planned right now, but they seem open to one in the future.
