The next entry in the DOOM first-person shooter series will reportedly be unveiled at the Xbox Game Showcase this June.
According to Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, this new entry will officially be called ‘DOOM: The Dark Ages‘ (previously codenamed ‘Year Zero’) and the game is believed to be “medieval inspired”.
Here’s exactly what he had to say:
“Last year I heard early details about the next entry in the DOOM franchise, which was described to me as a ‘medieval-inspired doom world’. While that doesn’t necessarily give much information going forward, ‘year zero’, ‘dark ages’ and ‘medieval-inspired ‘ give a vivid picture of where the series could go next?”
There are also claims the title will be a “multiplatform” releaseand Windows Central’s Jez Corden confirmed the report – mentioning that the new game is also “intended for Playstation”.
While there’s no specific mention of a Nintendo release, the Switch has received every major DOOM entry including “impossible ports” of the latest titles and DLC.
In other words, if this rumored title is headed for multiple other platforms in the future, there’s a chance it could end up on Nintendo’s next-gen hardware.
Nintendo said it will share an announcement about the Switch’s successor this fiscal year.
