The other day Nintendo released a surprise that left me with my mouth open: the Switch virtual game card. If you have no idea what that is about Objective Nintendo Switch Virtual Game CardDo not worry, I tell you everything as I have caught it, without dizzy.
What is the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 virtual game card?
It was on March 27, 2025 when Nintendo said: “Hey, look what we have prepared.” Basically, it is like a cartridge, but in a digital plan. You can take a game of your switch and pass it to another console, provided they are with your account or in the family group. It seems to me a pass, because the digital games have always been a bit rigid. If you want to find out well, here are the official announcement: Nintendo announces the virtual game card.
Las virtual game cards, It is a new function that allows users to easily manage digital games Have, play them in two different consoles or lend them to each other. Similar to physical game cards, which can be exchanged between different consoles, virtual game cards allow to “expel” the digital games that users have in a Nintendo Switch console and “load them” in another, linked to their Nintendo account or that belongs to a member of the same family group of said account.

Thanks to this optional function, users can see their virtual game cards or expel them from the console. Virtual game cards can be lent to the console of a family member of the Nintendo account through local communication.
The family group member can play the titles provided on their console for two weeks and, after that time, the original user will automatically recover them. This function will be available on Nintendo Switch at the end of April by means of an update of the console. In addition, virtual game cards will also be compatible with Nintendo Switch 2 from the day of the launch of said console.
And how is it used?
Well, it seems that in April 2025, with an update, we will be able to struggle with this. In the Switch menu the virtual cardsand with a couple of clicks you move from one console to another, either connecting them directly or by the accounts. What is cool for me is that I will finally be able to lend a digital game to my brother without trouble, which was previously impossible mission.
In case you want to imagine it better, watch this video I saw on Instagram, it's quite curious:
Why do you think such a good idea?
This of the Virtual Game Card It has me intrigued. If you have a couple of switch at home, it will come from pearls, and if you have ever wanted to spend a game to someone without giving the cartridge, now you can. This is something that people had been asking for a while. There are those who think that they connect it with the Nintendo Switch online, but that is already assumptions.
Does this have something to do with Nintendo Switch 2?
And speaking of what is coming, it gives me in the nose that this is related to the Nintendo Switch 2. Just now that we are all waiting for news of the new console, this seems a wink to what they could bring and it is expected to be expected to be compatible with Nintendo Switc2. On the other hand if you know about Switc 2 games, take a look with rumored games for switch 2 and another with the list of games that already sound.
As a closure
Total, that the Nintendo Switch virtual game card It seems to me an invention that will give a lot of play (never better). In April 2025 we will have it here, so there is little left. If you want to be aware, stop by the Nintenders article and look at the rumors of the Switch 2. What do you think of you? I think Nintendo has given on the nail.
