Since the game was officially released after Nintendo's September 2023 Direct, F-Zero 99 has been receiving updates with additional content and various bug fixes. Updates have been slow and incremental, but thanks to all the post-launch support, the game now has a lot of content that it didn't have when it originally launched.
Well, Nintendo has released another update. After you download the update, F-Zero 99 should be at version 1.5.5. This update arrives just in time for the holiday season, and its main addition is quite fitting. The Frozen Tour event, as well as the Frozen World Tour, have been added to the game. You can see the full patch notes below.
New additions
- Added Frozen Tour event. All tracks in the game will be covered with snow and will look like frozen tracks. By collecting Gem Sparks that appear on the frozen tracks, players can get event-exclusive rewards.
- The Frozen Tour event will be held for a limited time only. You can see how much time is left in the event by pressing the L key on the main menu.
- If you match at least one lucky rank during the event period, you can get 500 Gem Sparks as a reward.
- Classic tracks and secret tracks will not become frozen tracks.
- Grand Prix competitions for the Knights' League, etc. will be held on the usual tracks.
- Frozen tracks will not appear in private lobbies.
- Added a special event called Frozen World Tour where players compete for rank in 9 consecutive races when the Frozen World Tour event is live.
- The Frozen World Tour is a nine-race series, with each race consisting of three rounds. The rules are based on a scoring system where the order is determined by the total number of points awarded for each round, the number of knockouts and the number of Gem Sparks collected during the three rounds of the race.
- In Frozen World Tour, the more players there are in the lobby, the more potential points players can earn during the race.
- The Frozen World Tour leaderboard has been added to the weekly leaderboard. This ranking will reset every Sunday at 16:00 PST (00:00 UTC).
- A player who is ranked 999 or higher in the Frozen World Tour will receive a special badge. This badge can only be earned once during the time the event is live.
- The Frozen World Tour category has been added to Prix u Records in the Workshop.
- Star Rivals will appear again. It will occasionally appear in races on frozen tracks during the Frozen Tour Event.
- Star Rivals will not appear in team battles and races in private lobbies.
- The star rivals are Captain Falcon, Samurai Goroh, Dr. Stewart and Pico from the SNES version of F-ZERO.
- When you defeat a star rival in a race where he is chosen as your rival, you will receive a special badge that can be used to customize pilot cards. (This offer is limited to players who have not previously received it).
- Added Boost Boost and Spin Effects to be used to customize the machine, as well as backgrounds, badges and borders to be used to customize the Pilot Card. They can be unlocked when certain conditions are met.
- There are some customization items that can only be obtained during the time that the Frozen Tour event is live. You can check the acquisition status by pressing the L key on the main menu.
- Once you have acquired all the customization items for the Frozen Tour Event, you will receive 3 Prix Tickets for every 2000 Gem Sparks you collect.
- All unclaimed rewards from last year's Frozen Knight League will be available to claim during this event.
- This time we also added customization items that can be obtained by playing Team Battle and Pro Tracks modes.
- You can customize and confirm item eligibility by selecting Workshop from the main menu, then selecting CUSTOMIZE MACHINE, PILOT CARDS, or EMOTES.
