When asked if GTA 6 would be able to run on the upcoming console, Richard Leadbetter kicked things off by saying that it would be “very, very difficult to do,” before clarifying that “even on the Switch 1, Rockstar was very selective about games that he transferred to him”.
Oliver Mackenzie then elaborated on Richard’s sentiments, saying that GTA 6 has “a lighting model that may not have a good replacement without RT, and the Switch [2] it’s not going to be powerful enough to run all that raytracing.” He goes on to say that the level of simulation in GTA 6 is “something else entirely” and he doesn’t believe the Switch 2 will be able to handle that technology on screen.
So it seems that while the Switch 2 is considered to be a “true generational leap” over Nintendo’s current console, it may not be enough to run Rockstar’s latest flagship title. However, we will have to wait for official news from Nintendo about what exactly the new console will be capable of.
