Nintendo Switch fans could be in for a treat in the near future with an official social media account for Gothic style series that seemingly evokes the release of the original fantasy-themed action RPG on a hybrid platform.

Gothic was developed by the German studio Piranha Bytes (also known for its action RPG Resurrected) and released on PC in 2001. This appears to be the second Switch teaser, after the announcement at the end of last year who was teasing Gothic II it works on Switch.

This latest tweet coincides with the 22nd anniversary of the first title. You can see the switch controls in the screenshot below:

“Happy 22nd anniversary, #Gothic 1! On this day in 2001, a game that would captivate gamers for years to come was introduced to the world. As a gift to everyone, we decided to change it up a bit and tease something different. Stay tuned!”

And here’s what’s believed to be Gothic II running on Nintendo hardware:

As the year draws to a close, we want to thank each and every one of you for your great support. Gothic would not have become what it is today without all of you.

Happy New Year, nameless heroes! Let the coming years be full of surprises. pic.twitter.com/sgMNAtVwLs

Gothic should not be confused with upcoming Gothic 1 Remake from THQ Nordic developer Alkimia Interactive, which has improved graphics and many other modernizations.

Here’s a little more about Gothic’s story via Steam. In short, it is a living world where people work, sleep, eat and fight to survive. It has over 50 hours of gameplay and a huge variety of weapons and spells for your character to use.

The war was waged throughout the kingdom of Irtan. Orc hordes invaded human territory and the king of the land needed a lot of ore to forge enough weapons if his army was to stand up to this threat. Anyone who breaks the law in these darkest of times is condemned to serve in the giant penal colony of Khorinis, mining much-needed ore.

The entire area, called “The Colony”, is surrounded by a magical barrier, a sphere with a diameter of two kilometers, which closes the penal colony from the outside world. The barrier can be passed from the outside to the inside – but once inside, no one can escape. The barrier was a double-edged sword – soon the prisoners seized the opportunity and started a rebellion. The colony split into three rival factions and the king was forced to negotiate for his ore, not just demand it.

You are thrown through the barrier into this prison. With your back against the wall, you must survive and form unstable alliances until you finally escape.

And here’s a look at the gameplay, thanks NoobFriendlyZone’s YouTube channel:
