The ESRB just released a new rating for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and while the classifications sometimes offer little insight, this one seems to give more than usual confirming that the hero of Hyrule will be a playable character.
Yes, while the famed swordsman has apparently been “stolen” like many others in the land of Hyrule, it seems players may be able to control Link in some way or form. The ESRB rating for the title, which is ‘E10+’ (All 10+), mentions that Echoes of Wisdom not only contains “Fantasy Violence” but also says that players will be able to use Link, including his sword and arrows to defeat enemies:
“This is an adventure game where players take on the role of Zelda as she attempts to heal the rifts in Hyrule and rescue Link. From an overhead ¾-perspective, players explore different environments while battling stylized enemies (eg humans, creatures). As Link, players use a sword and arrows to defeat enemies
; Zelda can use a magic wand to summon creatures (eg cheerleading knights, pig soldiers, slimes) for battle. Some enemies can be defeated by being set on fire; other creatures dissolve into mist when defeated. The battle sequences are a bit frenetic, with several enemies attacking/fighting at once.”
As you can see, the same description also describes some of Zelda’s in-game abilities. This includes her “magic wand” to summon creatures in battle. This magic wand is actually called “Tri Rod” in the game, and Zelda also teams up with her mysterious new fairy friend, Tri.
Even if Link is playable, keep in mind that it’s still unclear when exactly that will happen in Zelda’s new outing, or even how often it might happen. Namely, it appears that you could control Link u introductory part of the game. You can learn more about this upcoming Switch title in our previous report here on Nintendo Life.
