The Mario movie was a huge success for Nintendo and Illumination – grossing over $1 billion at the global box office, and we’ve already gotten a teaser of what’s to come at the end of the first movie, so what’s the latest?
According to Mario’s movie voice Chris Pratt, there should be some news about a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. The film should arrive “soon”, when the screenwriters are ready. Here’s what he said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight:
“We are in the midst of this writers’ strike, so everything is paused and [put] on hold for the right reasons. I really support the Writers Guild of America and our writers. Once the negotiations are done and the writers feel comfortable moving forward, then it will be time to start talking about what’s next.”
Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto has already teased that there’s more to come, and even mentioned that Nintendo is a sort of “talent agency”, offering “plenty of other entertainers” to the film industry.
Pratt’s news of a possible Mario Movie sequel follows rumors earlier this week that Universal and Illumination were in the final stages of a “major deal” with Nintendo for an animated Legend of Zelda movie.
