Update [Sat 21st Sep, 2024 06:00 BST]:
Well, the Kickstarter for the ‘GC Ultimate Controller Kit’ is now “fully funded”. Creator Mitch Cairns also announced the news, thanking everyone for their enthusiasm and support.
Here is the “to-do list” until the end of September:
- Send payment for the molds immediately so they can begin the machining process. (Eta completion time in November for initial injection patterns)
- We are waiting until mid-October to submit the rest of our orders to determine the appropriate quantities to order
- See how many goals we can unlock!
A “new” shortlist of plugins has also been shared:
- Joystick sets (if you want two left sticks instead of a C nub, this is your chance to grab another set)
- Bald Button Sets (Transparent white only, but compatible with OEM controllers. Color may vary and be transparent instead)
- Ergo triggers + Dual Z (light gray color)
- Split Dpad set (can be transparent or transparent white color)
Screwdrivers have also been added:
“This controller was assembled with the sole requirement of a T6 and T8 screwdriver. I wanted to wait until I had firm confirmation on pricing, and I can confirm that we will include these screwdrivers with every kit. It is extremely profitable to include them. These tools are pretty cheap, and if you have a nicer set of bits, go for it. For someone who’s only doing one controller circuit, that’s going to do the trick.”

If you’re an avid GameCube controller user, you might want to check out this new Kickstarter do Mitch Cairns from Hand Held Legend. For the last three years he has been developing the ‘PROGCC line’ of competitive conversion controller kits and now he has launched this campaign for the ‘GC Ultimate Controller Kit’.
These sets have been used by “top players” and include hall-effect joysticks, a split d-pad design, an interchangeable door plate, mechanical and analog trigger options, and HD rumble. They are working on a firmware codenamed ‘Hoja’ which is compatible with the Raspberry Pi Pico (RP2040) and also includes Bluetooth support thanks to the inclusion of an ESP32 microcontroller.
This controller kit is compatible not only with GameCube (thanks to the detachable USB Type-C on the GC cable), but also with NES, SNES, N64, Switch, Android and PC. Includes a configuration app to calibrate sticks and remap buttons. You can see full list of features on the Kickstarter page.
This project has already passed half way, with 212,000 USD it needs to be fully financed. If funding exceeds the initial goal, new colors will be unlocked between $350,000 and $550,000, including Flame Red, Spice Orange, Indigo, Platinum, and Symphony Green.
