Square Enix’s Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake has been long overdue, and the latest update now has some fans hoping that the first two games might also return.
Adding fuel to the fire is a new comment from reliable leaker Midori, who seems to think that this new release for Switch and a number of other platforms could feature whole trilogy (well that’s Dragon Quest I, II and III
“I think it’s the Lotto trilogy.”
The latest video says “the legend of Erdrick draws near” and there’s an “HD-2D” logo, but no specific mention of a third game.
Erdrick is the name of the hero in the third outing, and the original three issues are known as the ‘Erdrick Trilogy’ (also called the Lotto Trilogy in Japan).
The same leaker claims that fans will likely hear more about this at the “next Nintendo Direct”, and says that the title will ship by the end of the current fiscal year.
Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake was originally announced in May 2021 and appears to have been in development well before that – so a trilogy release could potentially explain why the project took so long to see the light of day.
At the same time this project was revealed, Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii mentioned that remakes of Dragon Quest 1 and II were already under consideration, but it wasn’t “official” yet.
Of course, nothing has been officially confirmed about the trilogy collection at this stage, so don’t get too excited.
