Back in 1999, Nintendo of America held a special Super Smash Bros. themed wrestling event in North America called Super Smash Bros. Slamfest ’99. At an official event on April 24, 1999, characters from the now acclaimed franchise battled in front of a live audience in Las Vegas. The event was also recorded and streamed on the official Nintendo of America website via RealPlayer. Unfortunately, despite the fact that Super Smash Bros. Slamfest ’99 was broadcast live at the time, there doesn’t seem to be any footage of Slamfest ’99 available anywhere. Fortunately, the event’s producer, Ed Espinoza, did scanned some of his photos
“These 31 new photos are courtesy of Ed Espinoza, producer of Slamfest ’99. They were scanned from his personal collection, and he was kind enough to offer them to the search team to share. Ed used to be interviewed by GameXplain
“These photos reveal new details never before seen in the search, such as artist rehearsals, play stations for the Smash 64 preview, the surrounding stage area and production equipment, clear images of the referee and announcer, and more. . Very few photographs of the event have previously appeared, so the acquisition of such a large collection is significant news.”
