Nintendo received a nomination for the upcoming 36th Annual GLAAD Media Awards for his trans appearance in the 2024 remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Switch (thanks, Eurogamer).

The game, launched on May 23, 2024it featured the inclusion of dialogue from the 2004 GameCube version that was originally modified for the Western release. Centered on Mario's spirit companion Vivian, the change effectively restored the character's trans identity.

The Thousand-Year Door joins nine other nominees in the Outstanding Video Game category, along with Blumhouse Games' wonderful horror title Fear the Spotlight, which explored the relationship between the title's two protagonists, Amy and Vivian.

Here is the full list of nominees:

– Caravan Sand Witch (A toast in the studio plane / Dear villagers)
– Dragon Age: The Veilguard (BioWare / Electronic Arts)
– Dread Delusion (A Beautiful Place of Hell / DreadXP)
