The latest report from the Australian Strategic Policy Institute revealed that Nintendo, along with Microsoft, Apple, Sony and other large companies, are linked to Chinese labor camps. The factory in these camps is home to very poor working conditions, long working hours and places where religious belief is banned and negative consequences for workers and their families if those who work there do not follow strict rules.
It is reported that between 2017-2019, about 80,000 Uighurs, members of the Turkic minority, were relocated from Xinjiang to many factories in China. According to the report, they live in separate houses, receiving Mandarin training and ideas outside working hours, among other activities.
It is noted that Nintendo is not connected to these factories directly but rather, the supply chains they use to make their products. Companies using forced Uighur workers are breaking the rules and the report urges those listed to take immediate action.
The report is comprehensive, and you can read it in its entirety here.
