Since 2015, Nintendo has been working hard to increase the number of people entering its IP. He does this by expanding beyond his core business dedicated to video game platforms. This includes opening official shops, theme parks and even a plan to turn Super Mario into a motion picture.
In this sense, President Shuntaro Furukawa has now provided a timely update on the companies' recent financial footing. He first described how the company began to see the results of its efforts and went on to inform the current state of its products. The first one he discusses is Nintendo & # 39; s Tokyo store, launched last November:
Although Nintendo TOKYO does not significantly impact our financial results, the store serves as the basis for Nintendo's IP appeal, and we believe it will be a more effective point of contact between Nintendo and consumers.
The plan with the store is to keep an eye on consumer response, and then look at the possibility of expanding to other locations within and outside Japan.
Furukawa followed this up with a touch on Nintendo's expansion into theme parks. He mentioned how the company's partnership with Universal Parks & Resorts was a "huge step" to increase the number of people entering Nintendo IP.
The animation that develops us in conjunction with Illumination is one of the great examples. Furukawa said the project is going "well" and they are currently aiming for a stadium in 2022:
This is a project that Nintendo has been involved in since its development and production, and we will have the rights to get the movie taught for business opportunities. The movie will be produced jointly by Mr Shigeru Miyamoto, Executive Director and Fellow at Nintendo, and Mr Chris Meledandri, founder and CEO of Illumination.Funding for this movie will be provided by Nintendo and Universal Pictures, then a Universal image and manage distribution and promotion movie.
Last but not least was the talk of climbing with mobile devices – Furukawa reiterating how Nintendo will continue to use smart devices to introduce new consumers to its players, the world and gameplay.
