Readers’ honorable mentions
Created by writer Nico Saraintaris and artist Fernando Martinez Ruppel, Bahnsen Knights is the third game in the Pixel Pulp series, and perhaps the best. Blending the Choose Your Own Adventure books with stunning, ethereal pixel art, Bahnsen Knights is a short, if wild ride, and we rated it a 9/10 in our review.
Ago The world of assassination trilogy, Hitman: Blood Money has often been cited as the pinnacle of the series. All the different options and world-class stealth gameplay mechanics are intact here, even if the game does feel old in some areas. We gave this an 8/10 in our review.
A sweet version of Papers, Please with the style and humor of Monkey Island? That’s what Lil’ Guardsman is going for, and it absolutely delivers. Blending its inspiration with the original story, Lil’ Guardsman is a little gem on Switch, which is why the Nintendo Life staff named it the first ever eShop Selects vote winner. Don’t forget to read our review where we rated it 8/10.
eShop chooses a Reader’s Choice winner (January 2024)
Creaking on top with 21% of votes, you’ve chosen Arcade Archives Rainbow Islands as the January 2024 Reader’s Choice Winner! Sometimes, you only can’t beat the classics. And Hamster has done a consistently amazing job of re-releasing classic games on the Switch. Charming and challenging, Rainbow Islands is as beloved today as it was in the arcades over 35 years ago.

How we decide that our eShop chooses the top three: As we come to the end of each month, the Nintendo Life staff votes on their favorite titles from a list of games selected by the editorial team. To qualify for this list, these games must have been released only as a digital Nintendo Switch eShop title in that particular month and must have been reviewed on Nintendo Life; we select qualifying games based on their ratings.
Staff are then asked to vote for the three games they think deserve to be at the very top of that list; the first choice gets 3 points, the second choice gets 2 points, and the third choice gets 1 point. Those votes are then tallied to create a top three list, with the overall winner claiming that month’s top prize.
