Nintendo Rules On Why It Canceled Smash World Tour And Organizers Respond

Once again, we receive a curious message related to one of the most beloved franchises by Nintendo fans. It is actually about Super Smash Bros.

As we have learned, Nintendo has issued a statement after canceling the Smash World Tour, which they organize from Medium with great success. It is a fan-made event that Nintendo has now put an end to.

This is the statement that Nintendo has shared with my city speaking on the subject:

Unfortunately, after continued discussions with the Smash World Tour, and after giving the same deep consideration that we give to any potential partner, we were unable to reach an agreement with SWT for a full circuit in 2023. Nintendo did not request any changes or cancellation of the remaining events in 2022, including the 2022 Championship event, taking into account the negative impact on players who were already scheduled to participate.

Secondly, the organizers of Smash World Tour They have also responded to this statement, disagreeing with what the company shares:

To be clear, we haven’t even submitted an application for 2023 yet, the license application was for the 2022 Championships (submitted in April). Nintendo, including all the 2023 activity, was an addition we weren’t even expecting.

In our call that accompanied the statement, we asked multiple times if we could continue to operate without a license as we have in previous years with the same “unofficial” agreement with Nintendo. We were told flatly that those “times are over”. They followed up the call with their written statement, again confirming that both the 2022 Championship and all of the 2023 activity were in exactly the same boat.

What do you think? Do not hesitate to share your opinion in the comments.
