Nintendo said this morning that it will raise wages for its employees by 10% following a call from Japanese Prime Minister Fumi Kishida, who asked companies to raise wages across the land of the rising sun. The move will help attract more workers from abroad as Japan suffers from a declining birth rate and has very low immigration compared to other countries. Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa told investors the move is “important for our long-term growth to secure our workforce.” Mr. Furukawa was asked about the successor to the Kyoto-based company’s Nintendo Switch, but he declined to comment.. The Nintendo president also said the company has no plans to raise prices for video game software or consoles, but will consider it. if the circumstances required it.
