Details on Pikmin 4 are surprisingly light despite the game launching on the Nintendo Switch family of systems in July. Nintendo recently sent a survey
“Four captains will be named after dog breeds. Just like the last main Pikmin game, these captains will have their own naming scheme. However, instead of code words like Alpha, Charlie, Brittany and Delta. These new captains will be named after dog breeds, and the main character (the pink-haired captain) is named Pom after the Pomeranian breed. The names aren’t too exciting, I know… Still! I know something about night mode gameplay mechanics. However, I plan to share those things later!
OH! Also, I was asked if the orange one-eyed Pikmin leak was real, and it’s not… There is another new type of Pikmin in this game, but it’s not orange
(later) In order to explain what the night mode is like, I will first have to explain what the main game looks like… The main game (daytime and caves) will be played by “Pom” (the pink captain). The other three captains will be playable, but only at night. Their gameplay will be more in line with Pikmin 3’s challenge mode where you control 3 captains at once. The objective of the night mode is to collect as many “shooting stars” (Konpeito) as possible before the time runs out (which is about 5 minutes).”
