Sonic Frontiers was a triumph for Sonic Team. While Sonic’s latest 3D game isn’t perfect, reporters seem to agree that it lays a good foundation for Sonic Team’s next adventure. Sonic Frontier producer Morio Kishimoto spoke to fans on Twitter and said he would like to do away with boosting in the next game and points to the classic Sonic Adventure series as a game that doesn’t need a boost button to move through levels. He said he understands that boosting has its advantages, but he would like to create levels that can be achieved without a boost button. Here is a translation of his tweets.
“When I started working on this game, I was very worried whether boost was possible or not, and I decided to adopt it. I’m still thinking that for the next game I’d like to try a Sonic game without powerups.
I favorite giant bosses are the first and second.”
“Of course, we understand the benefits of reinforcements. I will also co-exist and experiment with boost and spin dash, so don’t worry. However, I also have a desire to try a non-amplified level design like the ADV series. After all, the ADV series is legendary😅.”
