If a look at most of our stats for the Nintendo Switch year in review is anything to go by, more than a few of us have spent a lot of time with Balatra this year. We've spent so long with him, in fact, that his iconography is pretty much etched in our minds at this point. It sure would be a shame if one snarky tweet made us see the whole thing differently, huh?
Well, we're sorry, but that's exactly what happened. It all started with a tweet from the author @JacobJanerkawho shared that he sees the game's mascot, Jimbo, not as a clown with a blue collar with frills, but as a guy with a giant head in a blue jumpsuit — that's KFC colonel all over again
Yes, we had to see it, so we'll walk you through it too. Here's the mockup that started it all:
We Nintendo Lifers laughed at this one when we first saw it this morning, amused by the idea that anyone could see it as anything other than a clown in some fancy collar. AND answer from Balatro developer LocalThunk simply saying “Delete this” made us smugly assume we were right — after all, no one else could be thinking the same thing, right?
wrong. A closer look at the thread reveals that the original poster was not alone in his point of view and, after a quick poll at Nintendo Life Towers, there are even some of us who have long seen the mascot in the same small-bodied way.
We were tired. We were appalled. But now we're starting to wonder if we at Team Ruff are wrong. When we saw Ben Starr take on the role in the recent 'Friends of Jimbo' trailer, he certainly went for the turtleneck look, but who's to say that 'rectify' interpretation?
Help us solve this, dear readers — is the mascot Balatro a clown in a dress or a dude with a huge head and a tiny body? You can cast your vote in the poll below. Please, we need to know.
Ruf or tiny body? Which side are you on? Let us know in the comments.
