The development team behind the GameCube and Wii emulator Dolphin has shared some surprising news – announcing that Dolphin is “coming soon” to Valve’s Steam service in the second quarter of 2023. You can even wishlist a free download now.
When Dolphin launches as an Early Access game on the Steam Store, the team will share an article detailing the “process and features” of this particular build. Here’s what the developers had to say about the initial announcement:
“We are happy to finally tell the world about our experiment. This is the product of months of work and we look forward to getting it into the hands of users soon!”
It follows on from the same team receiving the Steam Deck ahead of release last year and testing Dolphin on the unit with some exclusive titles.
Here’s a little about this version via Steam. It is also stated that “this app does not come with games” and requires that you “own a genuine copy of any game you wish to use with Dolphin”. This emulator will include support for 4K displays, modern controllers, netplay, is fully open source and again free to download.
“Dolphin Emulator is your one-way ticket to nostalgia if you want to relive classics from the blocky and motion-controlled consoles of the big Na. Step back into the pre-microtransaction era of gaming and experience the diverse library of thousands of titles released for these consoles over a 15+ year period. Dolphin Emulator allows these classic games to be reborn in the modern age with support for 4K displays, modern controllers and much, much more. All this, completely open source and free to download.”
