Since launching on September 6, 2024PS5 Astro Bot is making waves in the gaming community thanks to its high quality and ingenuity. Taking strong inspiration from Nintendo (and especially from Super Mario franchise), developer Team Asobi has undoubtedly made one of the best platformers in recent times.
One individual who has spent time with the game is none other than Masahiro Sakurai, the legendary creator behind it Kirby and Super Smash Bros. franchise. In an effort to include his latest YouTube video at runtime, he posted a tweet stating that he had completed Astro Bot and rescued all 300 lost bots. He says he found the game interesting enough, even though it didn’t take much of his time, that he just couldn’t not play it.
“I cleared the “ASTRO BOT” by saving 300 people. This doesn’t take that long, but I found it interesting enough that I couldn’t help but play it. Great game.
“I want you to be happy with the time you spend playing games!”
Team Asobi then quoted Sakurai’s post and simply said “Dear Sakurai-san, Thank you so much for taking the time to play ASTRO BOT! With love from Team ASOBI”.
Team Asobi is, of course, a Japanese company consisting of many developers from the now defunct Japan Studio. Given the similarities between the Astro Bot and Nintendo franchises, we think the Asobi team was pleasantly surprised to read such glowing praise from a renowned developer like Sakurai.
There are, however, those who think that Astro Bot crosses the line when it comes to drawing inspiration from Nintendo, and we asked the other day what you good people thought about that. If you missed the talk, be sure to cast your vote via the article below and let your voice be heard.
