GBA coder Joshua Barrett's Super Mario 64 project continues to move forward, with the latest presentation showing a demo of the game running on “real hardware.”
Yes, after constant requests from fans to see the game in action on an actual Game Boy Advance, Barretto has now uploaded a video of it, while also showing exactly how the controls, movement, and attacks work on the 32-bit system.
Barretto also answered questions about possible public disclosure. As the assets are derived from Nintendo's intellectual property, this project will never be available for download. However, the source code will be released.
“I can't release the ROM publicly…Both the code and how the player works are completely original, so eventually I'll be able to give you the next best thing – the source code to play and mod to your heart's content. I'm excited to see what people use it for.” “
The latest video update also showcases various other improvements such as stage segmentation, enemy interaction, improved animations and more.
