We are receiving more statements from Reggie Fils-Aime. Remember that it is indeed the former president of Nintendo of America, who has now confirmed news.
Specifically, we have now been able to learn some advice that he remembers from all those who gave him Satoru Iwata, deceased former president of Nintendo. He has commented how he attached great importance to listening to employees, for example.
These have been Reggie’s statements in his new book:
Iwata told me, “We have a unique challenge in understanding and maintaining the company culture while moving it forward. I want us to really listen to all of our employees. I want us to try to really understand their perspective before we start pushing their own ideas. You are very forceful. Our people, including NCL employees, want to please you. And you have very good ideas. But you won’t always be right. Be sure to think about other people’s perspectives.”
It was a deep conversation. He kept telling me, “I have to do this too. I’m trying to push Nintendo in a new way. However, Mr. Miyamoto and others have been a part of the company for a long time. I need to make sure they are with me when we go on this journey.”
It was at the end of this dinner that I felt like we went from being in a boss/subordinate or mentor/protégé relationship, to being friends. I would incorporate his ideas into all of my future work, at Nintendo and beyond.
What do you think of their statements? We read you in the comments.
