Now there’s even more reason to check out retro first-person shooter Rise of the Triad with a new update that adds cross-play support.
This means you can now engage in multiplayer battles with your friends on other systems including Xbox, PlayStation and PC. Here Summary of Nightdive version 1.1, and below that are the full patch notes (via Steam).
“The v1.1 patch for @RiseoftheTriad: Ludicrous Edition is out NOW with quality of life improvements like cross-platform multiplayer, level stats, bug fixes and more.”
There are also some Switch-specific updates including performance improvements when viewing certain textures and a controller-related fix when switching from docked to handheld mode. You can get an overview below:

- Added
- Multi-platform multiplayer.
- Added last alternate actor, lightning guardian.
- A new setting that allows players to prevent automatic weapon switching on download.
- Text chat button added to multiplayer menus.
- Level stats: such as kill count and secrets have been added to the map screen.
Changed- Fonts now have zeros trimmed to make them easier to read.
- The online timeout is set to 20 seconds.
- Better default sound settings that are less ear-splitting.
- (Switch, Sony) Significant performance improvements when viewing floor or ceiling textures.
Fixed
- Fixed various rendering issues seen at higher resolutions.
- Significant improvements have been made to the online lobby, making connections more reliable.
- Fixed numerous network code bugs, especially in low bandwidth cases.
- It is no longer possible to get stuck in the game after connecting to a server that shuts down while loading a level.
- Booting into the editor now no longer has messy camera controls.
- The platform icon is no longer stretched on the traffic light.
- Killing Big John with a fire wall or god ball no longer softlocks the game.
- Many cases of menu stack corruption have been resolved, resolving various softlocks.
- The title screen has far fewer missing pixels at the bottom of each pixel column.
- Rumble no longer exists between levels.
- Default music tracks no longer cause excessive CPU usage.
- Disabling freelook now shows a view of the horizon.
- Using the “No target” cheat code during the oscuro battle no longer crashes the game.
- HUD Preview is now properly cleared when exiting the menu in an unconventional way.
- (Consoles) Default bindings are now no longer merged with user bindings.
- (Sony) Music no longer stops playing when stopped incorrectly.
- (Toggle) Switching from the dock to manual mode no longer prevents the use of the controller.
