As the Nintendo Switch continues to age, one thing that has become increasingly apparent over the years is that the console's technology has become more and more outdated. This only made the need for a new Nintendo console more urgent. Now, with the Switch's successor coming soon, new rumors have surfaced that suggest just how much more technologically up-to-date the console will be.
It has been revealed that Nintendo has a job opening for an electrical engineer. Among the requirements are several mentions of knowledge of the power behind PCB design. One of them specifically mentions “experience with high-speed signaling and power delivery on a PCB design that includes elements such as PCIE, DDR4, MIPI, SD/SD Express”.
The mention of SD Express, Samsung's new upcoming standard line of microSD cards, has led some to speculate that Nintendo's next hardware will support it. The theory is that Nintendo wants a higher transfer rate for microSD cards. The average transfer speed of the current line is 60 MB per second, and the highest you can currently get is 150 MB per second from a 1.5 TB SanDisk SDXC card. Samsung claims the SD Express cards will be able to reach transfer speeds of up to 800MB per second, something Nintendo's new console will really need as video games get bigger.
