Grasshopper Manufacture’s long-awaited remaster of the aptly named Shadows of the Damned video game Shadows of the Damned Hella Remastered, has now been rated by the Entertainment Software Rating Board. The game, in which you take on the role of a demon hunter on a mission to kill the Underworld Emperor, has been rated Mature, and the reason for this is given below by the ESRB. Shadows of the Damned Hella Remastered doesn’t have an exact release date, but it should be out later this year on Nintendo Switch and other platforms.
“Players use pistols, shotguns, machine guns and flares to attack and kill enemies. Shooting at enemies results in blood splatter, dismemberment and/or beheading effects. Cutscenes also show additional examples of violence and blood/gore: a character opening up; demons are beheaded, resulting in fountain-like blood spewing; demons that eat severed parts of the human body. Some environments feature large bloodstains, limbs and severed heads. The game features a fantastic red light district, with themed neon signs and billboards (eg “Sex Paradise”; “Peep Show”; “Strippers”; “XXX”). While passing through this area, players may encounter a huge female with her breasts exposed; players can walk on the giant’s chest. Sexual material is also mentioned in the dialogue (e.g. “They’re all trying to get into the most beautiful girl”; “Why don’t you fuck off on some bird porn?”). The words “f**k” and “c*nt” appear in the game.
