Princess Peach: Showtime! takes us to the enchanting world of the Sparkle Theatre, where Theets perform various plays on stage. Although after the arrival of Peachthe evil Grape and the Sour Bunch take over the theater and nab the stars.
The premise is typical of the Mario franchise. Each floor of the theater is guarded by Grape’s henchman, and Peach must confront them to free other stages. Bosses use unique mechanics, such as Disco Wing, which disorients the player with changes in gravity. And the second boss, Light Fang, reminds us of Batman: Arkham Asylum.
Princess Peach: Showtime! Was it inspired by the Scarecrow levels from Batman: Arkham Asylum?
However, within Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham Asylum, players face the Dark Knight’s most sinister villains, including the Scarecrow (aka Jonathan Crane).
Throughout the game, this ruffian injects Batman with his signature Fear Toxin, unleashing Scarecrow Nightmares. During these chilling segments, players must overcome various challenges.
In a similar twist to Scarecrow’s nightmares in Batman: Arkham Asylum, the Light Fang boss in Princess Peach: Showtime! Players are also challenged to overcome obstacles while avoiding the gaze of a giant snake.
Strategy is crucial: players must break each light bulb to stun Light Fang and reveal its weak point. So be careful, you may get caught in the boss’s gaze, forcing Peach to restart the level segment.
Light Fang from Princess Peach: Showtime and Scarecrow from Batman: Arkham Asylum are two villains with very different tones. While the first has a theatrical and sinister aesthetic, the second immerses itself in a dark and mature world.
The Scarecrow Nightmares levels in Batman: Arkham Asylum are disturbing, and failure has more serious consequences. Instead, in Princess Peach: Showtime!, players simply restart the boss fight. Which do you prefer?
