We are only one day away from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie — which introduces Shadow the Hedgehog to the blockbuster franchise — hits theaters worldwide. But Diversity reports that Paramount Pictures has already greenlit a fourth film.
Shocked? No, not us. According to the report, the film is targeting spring 2027. We don't know anything yet, but considering that director Jeff Fowler stayed with the first three films, it wouldn't surprise us if he was involved in the fourth.
The franchise — which also spawned a Paramount Plus TV show starring Knuckles — was a box office hit, with the first two alone grossing $725.2 million at the box office. And we expect the third film to follow suit — it's already projected to earn $55 million to $60 million in the U.S. alone this weekend.
In addition, critics were quite favorable towards the third entry; has an average of 61 on Metacriticand 86% on Rotten Tomatoes.
In the third Sonic movie, Sonic, Tails and Knuckles are back and are called upon to fight a new enemy — Shadow the Hedgehog, played by Keanu Reeves. This also results in their association with dr. Jim Carrey's Robotnik, who during the film meets his grandfather, Gerald Robotnik, again.
We don't know plot details for the fourth movie, but there are currently spoilers for the upcoming third movie, and if we had to guess, we're guessing they might tie into Sonic's fourth outing.
Are you going to see the Sonic movie this weekend? Let us know in the comments.
