Although we are still waiting for Stardew Valley’1.6 Update‘ for Switch, game creator Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone is already rolling out new updates for the PC version.
In the latest update (1.6.4 update), the creator has added all kinds of new content and features on top of everything already included in the 1.6 update. The highlight of 1.6.4 is the fact that there are now 20 new ‘alternative’ main skins and 20 new volcanic mine skins.
There’s a bunch of other content, and in addition to this are some translation tweaks, balance changes, visual improvements, quality of life improvements, bug fixes, and more. While we wait for version 1.6 to hit the Switch (according to a previous update earlier this month, it’s coming “as soon as possible”), here’s a look at the patch notes for this little newer patch:
Stardew Valley 1.6.4 (now available on PC):
New content and features
– Added 20 new ‘alternate’ mine skins, which can start appearing after reaching the bottom of the mine.
– Added 20 new volcano mine skins, which can appear after you’ve unlocked the shortcut between the caldera and the volcano entrance.
– Added fish madness.
– Added a special scene after helping your new neighbors grow their family to the max.
– Added 4 new fairy styles.
– You can now place 8 additional non-fish items in aquariums.
– Raccoon shop now includes crafting for mystery boxes and golden mystery boxes.
– Vinegar can now be poured on trees to prevent moss from growing on them.
– Shaving Enchantment now causes tree-specific drops:
fern → fiddle fern
mushroom → red mushroom
mahogany → hardwood
Translation changes
– Many changes and improvements to the Chinese version
– Editing of Russian, Portuguese, Hungarian, Turkish and Korean translations.
– Changed Chinese fonts to make them more attractive and readable.
– Changed the Hungarian character for number spacing from a comma to a full stop.
– Some Russian font improvements.
Balance changes
– When you load a save, you will now unlock missed Steam Achievements (eg achievements gained by playing offline) when needed.
– Added a mini shipping container as an expensive purchase in the Qi gem shop.
– Added more variety and improvements to the treasure chests in the cave of skulls.
– Elixirs of Life now only restore health, and Energy Tonics now only restore energy.
– Wild seed spots are now rarer, but produce more seeds.
– Doubled chance of Iridium Golem to drop Iridium.
– Monsters in the starting level of the volcano are now randomly selected every day.
– Using treasure totems indoors no longer works. This prevents them from being wasted.
– Downgrading in mines now makes you invulnerable for 1 second.
– Increased reward for Raccoon Isterious Box from 4 to 5.
– Farming experience now contributes 50% to mastery experience.
– The ice ball will no longer freeze the spider while jumping in the air.
– Removed redfish from the winter fishing quest pool, and sardines from the summer quest pool.
– You will no longer receive calico rating points from dropping into normal mines.
– Golden mystery boxes now have a small chance of giving auto petter.
– Slightly reduced chance of finding mysterious boxes.
– Mine barrels and coal carts will now be “refreshed” at the beginning of each year.
– Istery box reward order is now randomized per player instead of per save.
Visual improvements
– Qi Club coins now appear in the shop menu.
– Various map edits and fixes.
– Removed Maru’s glasses from all beach portraits for consistency.
– Improvements to captions in some languages other than English (eg Chinese, French and Russian)
The quality of life is changing
– Added a 1.2 second delay after dropping an item, before it is picked up again by the same player.
– Napalm rings are now indestructible on the farm and inside the slime shack (ie the explosion will only damage monsters).
– Added ctrl + right click as an alternative shortcut key to drop the toolbar.
– Receiving a “special notification” (eg first geode message) will no longer cancel player actions such as eating or bending.
– Flopping fish no longer fall back into ponds.
– Crab Pots now have a short period of time after harvesting from them during which they cannot be removed (750ms).
– The Junimo package menu now only indicates items that can actually be placed in the selected package.
Other changes
– Less optimization.
– Added two inappropriate names to the name generator exclusion list.
– You can no longer give gifts to NPCs during the 1st year of green rain (prevents inappropriate attitudes). This also prevents the Demetrius portrait problem.
Gameplay fixes
– Fixed pet disappearing bug.
– Fishing splash zones and mine points are now removed overnight.
– The reward ticket machine now spends your ticket when you get a reward, not when you first press the button.
– For perfection purposes, the level 100 stardrop mine now has a more robust way to verify that it has been acquired.
– Fixed Monster Compendium not actually doubling all loot.
– Fixed geodes no longer drop on the farm under normal circumstances.
– Fixed rare crash when creating items overnight.
– Fixed players crashing into things during event scenes.
– Fixed pre-1.6 forged weapons with reduced stats.
– Fixed not being able to put a torch on the sprinkler you get as a CC reward.
– Fixed various bugs/crashes related to cabin construction.
– Fixed wild seeds in garden pots placing their final crop in the upper left corner of the map instead of the pot.
– Fixed “lost and found” chests (from the night market and elsewhere) no longer working in 1.6.
– Fixed duplication bug with “lost and found” chests.
– Fixed slime shack floors reverting to default after reloading the game.
– Fixed incorrect red fireworks ID for casino shop.
– Fixed the overarching pet adoption case only working with the animal catalog and only being applied in year 2 and not for any other year or later.
– Fixed the ‘use legacy randomization’ option being applied inconsistently when loading a save, causing weird issues like intermittent green rainy days.
– Fixed a case where you could permanently miss an ancient seed recipe if you grabbed an ancient seed packet but not the associated recipe and then closed the museum reward menu. Missing recipes will also be returned after uploading the file.
– Fixed problem with duplicate animals and building interiors from pre-~1.3 saves.
– Fixed end tables that cannot be rotated.
– Fixed an issue where Robin could not remove empty barns/chicken coops on old saves.
– Fixed slime egg incubators allowing you to retrieve the egg before it hatches.
– The fixed position of the country house corresponds to the restrictions of placing the buildings around it.
Multiplayer fixes
– Synchronized some NPC gift information in other languages.
– Fixed fireworks (and possibly other ghosts) drawing behind things in multiplayer.
– Fixed “Build a Silo” quest not completing for farm workers.
– Fixed the Raccoon quest not being removed for all players.
– Fixed double trinket issue when farm worker disconnects/reconnects.
– Fixed the issue of duplicate and/or missing derby participant sprites in multiplayer.
Text display and localization fixes
– Many changes and corrections in the translation text.
– Fixed a text parsing error for Asian languages that caused them to wrap incorrectly in some cases.
– Fixed space issues in Asian languages.
– Fixed several localization issues
– Russian line break problem solved.
– Fixed events not handling gender-dependent text consistently.
Cosmetic repairs
– Adjusted drawing order of basic objects so that shards will not be drawn under them as often.
– Placeable grass now moves slightly vertically if it were to pass through the front layer tile.
– Fixed seasonal world map not working for non-english players.
– Fixed flying monsters not drawing over farm and volcano stuff.
– Fixed the reward icon in the completed quest menu being visually displaced.
– Fixed george’s TV clip with farmer during green rain.
– Fixed movies not showing layered sprites (eg eyeball in Isterium).
– Fixed Qi club coins drawn under light map.
– Fixed overlay of Qi coins being drawn during minigames.
– Fixed faucet game sound not stopping when the game is force closed.
– Fixed some problems with tooltip filling.
– Solved problems with the display in the cinema on the world map.
– Fixed repeated dialogue selection sound if a controller was attached but using a mouse.
– Resolved the problem of the input shift of the reward icon for the task.
– Fixed drawing of roof of Joja warehouse over time (and possible other similar cases).
– Fixed various issues with map tiles.
– Fixed a visual issue with the shadow in the farmhouse.
– Fixed the possibility of exchanging two crates of the same type.
– Repaired machines sometimes wobble when not processing anything.
