Capcom has confirmed that it is Resident Evil the franchise is now sold ridiculously 157 million units since the start of the franchise in 1996.
Admittedly, we cannot imagine a huge percentage of sales came from the Switch, where several titles were unfortunately ported to ‘Cloud Versions’, but it’s still an impressive feat.
This was revealed via the latest Capcom financial statement on earningswhich also confirmed that fiscal 2024 delivered the highest net sales and operating income in the company’s history, totaling 152.4 billion JPY (+21% yoy) and JPY 57 billion (+12% yoy) respectively.
The company also predicted continued growth for fiscal 2025, citing 12 consecutive years of operational growth. It was also clarified that next year’s results will be heavily weighted in the second half; so in other words, don’t expect a lot of big releases from Capcom in the next six months or so.
Capcom will, however, release Monster Hunter Stories for the Switch on June 14, 2024which will help contribute 100 million of sales that the franchise has achieved so far.
As for the company’s other major franchises, Street Fighter sold a total of 54 million units, Mega man 41 million units, Devil May Cry 31 million units, The dead rise 16 million units, i Dragon’s Dogma 11 million units.
