Nintendo has started a period of emergency maintenance tasks on some of its online servers. At the moment little is known about it, although it has been confirmed that some services, such as the Switch eShop, 3DS and Wii U, are being affected.
As we mentioned, the reasons for these emergency maintenance tasks have not been shared, although we assume that the servers will be back online soon after the Christmas boom that Nintendo already

This appears to be due to a Christmas outage, although it has not been officially confirmed.
