We bring a curious message related to one of the most beloved franchises by igamesnews. It is actually about Tony Hawk‘s Pro Skater.
As we have learned, Tony Hawk himself has revealed that he was about to sign an agreement with a company other than Activision before the first game in the franchise was released. He has confirmed it in the podcast The Diary of a CEO
We leave you with his words:
There was another group making a game that had contacted me and I tagged along for a bit. I realized that what they were trying to do was much m ore, it was technically more difficult to play because they were trying to truly emulate skateboarding.
I felt like I understood that approach but, at the same time, skateboarding wasn’t that important when we released this game or when we were going to release it, and I wanted something that was easier for non-skaters to play, to understand, to be able to just play. and start doing tricks.
When I saw what Activision had, I saw a very early version of a skateboarder doing tricks, the way he moved, and for me it was intuitive, it was perfect, it was like I immediately started playing it, I started doing tricks, it was almost like it was an extension of my body to start doing this on that screen with that skateboarder, and something like that innate seemed right to me.
And then, could it have been different? I would say if Activision had maybe called me a month or two later, I might have already signed another deal, so I felt very lucky.
