What are you playing this weekend? (February 17)

There’s one game that I’ve tried to get into over and over again, but for some reason I’ve never been able to get past the first few hours, and that’s Okami. I’m hoping to fix that this weekend with Okami HD on Switch because I keep feeling like I’m missing out on something truly great.

Elsewhere I’m working on a demo for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. I haven’t played it much yet, but I’m feeling a bit… underwhelmed? I’m not sure what that is. I know Square Enix is working on a patch for the visuals, but I don’t think it looks as nice as this Remake, and the mountain environment seems a bit bland to me. I’m still optimistic about the whole game though.

I have a fair amount of travel on the cards for this weekend, but I don’t have a good idea of what I want to play yet. I haven’t been devoting too much time to my Switch lately and I want to change that. I downloaded Born of Bread and ready for some Paper Mario-esque kick, and it would be nice if Golden Sun finally arrived.

However, what I really, really want is to restart the Hollow Knight series and play it all the way through this time. I don’t know what caused that desire. Has it just been a while or are they mine Madame Web the forces activate and leave me a sign to wrap it up before some kind of Silksong shadow falls? Can you imagine??

Well, I’m really looking forward to Unicorn Overlord now, especially after reading our hands-on review, so I’ll try to assuage my growing FOMO by going back to another Vanillaware belt in the form of 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim .

I’ve played a whole bunch of this on PS4 and it’s absolutely awesome stuff, so a nice quiet weekend of Kaiju/Mech blasting action seems just the ticket for me right now. Oh, there will also inevitably be my kids’ usual weekly Mario Kart 8 run, but that feels like work at the moment.

I’m still running with Sargon in Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. Explore the entire map and complete sub-quests before going into the inevitable final boss battle. Hell Divers 2 unfortunately it broke my heart on my computer after I discovered that the game works with both Denuvo and nProtect GameGuard. There’s no way I’m going to install a rootkit on my rig for whatever reason, so I’m going back to playing the original Hell divers instead of that. Strange occurrence: I got hooked on the Game Boy Advance remake Wingsan old Amiga favorite that is now getting my attention again because it’s pocket friendly.

Game of the week is Mario vs. Donkey Kong. 130 levels of cryptic platform action? Sign me up to Nintendo’s next big release… hey, isn’t the Nintendo Direct coming soon?

Not sure what to play this weekend! I got to the point The fading world where I feel like I’m dealing with early access, but it feels new enough to keep playing (even as I fall through the world). I mean, I like the idea of animals helping me with farming and crafting, and some of Pal’s designs are super cute. Traveling is also quite fun, since it depends on what friends you have — I have birds, so now I can fly! I know it’s a controversial match, but I’m hopeful Pokémon can at least learn some lessons from it.

Other than that… I downloaded The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood, and I really don’t know much about it, but I’m enjoying finding out. Designing your own tarot card is very silly and fun. It’s a bit like Sticky jobwhich I bought on sale last week, but got bored of very quickly — having creative freedom is fun, but there has to be something that drives the desire to keep creating, you know?

That’s what we have planned for the weekend, what about you? Take the following poll with the game you’ll be running over the next few days, then slide into the comments to tell us what other titles are on the cards.
