I’m tempted to dive into something new this weekend. The Balatra weeks returned my brain to its most goblin state, so something far away from roguelike would be ideal. I still have an hour or two of the Unicorn Overlord demo left before I have to cough up the full version, but that’s at the top of my list right now. On the other hand, I’m also very interested in the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection after playing them to death back in the day — assuming multiplayer clears up, that is. Decisions, decisions (definitely not going to buy either and end up playing more Balatra).
As for something I actually own, I made the mistake of starting a new save on Pokémon X and was once again reminded how much Gen VI slaps. There will certainly be a little more on the cards.

I’ll be playing Balatro first this weekend. I’m not done running yet, but I can’t wait to bookmark it and put it out of my mind because there’s so much more I want to get to! Namely, considering that the 30th anniversary is approaching, the first game of Final Fantasy VI would be timely. I also need to read the remaining chapters of Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story, continue with Pikmin 4 (that game really should ‘Yes, I’ve already played the game Pikmin – Skip Guide’ button), dive into the Unicorn Overlord demo, continue with Astrologaster and Outer Wilds… Oh, and check out Cavern of Dreams too. AND Mars after midnight.
It’s a loose plan. Reality? It will be 11 o’clock Balatra, init. Wish me luck.

Mario Day got me playing Mario games again, so I recently went back to Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Odyssey. I might play both at different intervals over the weekend, we’ll see how busy I am, but I’ll probably just focus on Sunshine and try to get it done.
I’m also planning to break out the 3DS this weekend and play Luigi’s Mansion 2. I’m confused as to why Nintendo would remaster this one for the Switch, as I’ve often found it to be the worst of the three games so far. With that in mind, I want to give it another go and see if my opinion has changed at all since I last finished it.

I’m sick this week meaning I gave myself permission to buy a ton of games as well as finish some backlogs! I bought Lil Guardsman, Dungeon Drafters, and Core Keeper (that one is Steam only and early access for now, but it was on a big sale).
I also tried to finally play Paranormasight: Seven Isteries of Honjo, but I didn’t realize it was THAT AWFUL. I’m a baby when it comes to horror so I gave up about 15 minutes in. Can someone convince me that it’s not that bad (or that it’s worth it)?

Greetings from the world of Pure Xbox!
As the editor of Nintendo Life’s sister site, I’ll obviously be busy playing a lot of Xbox games over the weekend, but I also wanted to take a moment to rant about how much I’m loving my 2DS right now. I’m talking about the cheap-as-a-chip, standard model 2DS. This is a bold statement, but it might be my favorite handheld of all time, and that includes the original Game Boy, my beloved PSP, and of course, the Nintendo Switch.
With that in mind, this weekend I’ll be playing a lot of Pocket Card Jockey (I prefer the DS version to the remaster) and the amazing Nintendo Pocket Football Club, and I’m still very slowly working my way through Pokémon X. I might even treat myself to GTA: Chinatown Wars if I can. I manage to find.
Anyway, come and say hi to the Pure Xbox once! We would love to have you.

I’m really addicted to a game that I hated at first. I mean, I say “hated,” hate is a strong word, but me really it didn’t match the Unicorn Overlord demo and uninstalled it soon after. The funny thing is that I kept hearing from the NL team how good the game was so I decided to go on Amazon and buy it full fucking game, I didn’t know why, I thought I would regret it, you know? Fast forward 20 hours of gameplay later and I am absolutely obsessed with Unicorn Overlord.
So if you’re wondering what I’ll be playing this weekend? Well, I’ll play Balatra.

Progress through Unicorn Overload continues at a steady pace. But the eShop is fighting back with the outstanding Berserk Boy, the run’n’gun retro antics of Orion Haste, the incredibly addictive New Star GP, the Death of a Wish-inducing raids, and the outstanding sequel Valiant Hearts: Coming Home. I’m also playing Dragon Ball: Advanced Adventure again on the GBA, this time going for Krillin’s run.
I game of the week is Contra: Operation Galuga. Indeed, Unity is once again not quite the perfect game engine to upgrade to Switch games, but I still manage to keep wanting to play more of these flawed but otherwise pretty good Contra input. Let’s attack really aggressively!
That’s what we have planned for the weekend, what about you? Take the following poll with the game you’ll be running over the next few days, then slide into the comments to tell us what other titles are on the cards.
