Here’s a game I’ll definitely be playing myself this weekend, Animal Well. I finally solved it and bought it. I’ve only been in for three hours and so far it’s… great. I’m a little intimidated by it all, to be honest. I fully intend to spend a little more time with it this weekend and start uncovering some of its secrets. If my experience with other ‘metroid games’ is anything to go by, this game will make me insufferable when I start talking about it.
I’m glad I mentioned that. I can’t imagine anyone else playing anything like this…

I’ve been playing Animal Well a bit recently. I have to admit, even though I’m enjoying it, I still don’t understand what all the fuss is about. I’ll give it some more time and see if anything clicks. By the way, I’m still very attached to my recently modded 3DS. I’ve dabbled in the likes of Luigi’s Mansion, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, and a rather interesting rom hack called Pokémon Unbound

I’m buried in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Hades II last few weeks, but it’s time for a change. There are too many amazing indies coming out right now that I have to start now so I don’t bother to catch up. So I relented and bought Animal Well – seems like this story every week doesn’t it? Each wayp another person stumbles upon a well.
I’m also going back to Dark Souls – but this time it’s like this Dark souls III. Don’t worry, I plan to play Dark souls II in the end, but this is where my heart lies right now. I’m also going to watch the Dave The Diver Godzilla DLC this weekend because I need an excuse to dive into the ocean again. Have a great weekend, folks!

So many games. I’ve been dungeon crawling with Wizardry for a while, so I’d like to try something fresh. I bought Shadows of Valentia a long time ago but never got around to running it, so that’s my goal for the weekend. I should also go back to Chants of Sennaar and polish the last chapter of Llamasoft. I’ve managed to resist Animal Well’s charms so far, but it might be a payoff purchase.

I played Animal Well almost non-stop. I don’t even know what to say about that! Everything is a spoiler!!! But I love a game that comes with multiple layers of secrets, and I think I’ve discovered maybe two of them so far? Honestly, this is my favorite part of metroidbrainiae: the part where you know a lot, but not everything. I don’t know how many more “THIS HAS BEEN HERE THE WHOLE TIME?” reveals that there are some left and I want to keep each one. What a gem. If you like Outer Wilds, Tunic, or any of those types of games, you owe it to yourself to play Animal Well. And don’t let the fact that it’s a platformer put you off! I hate platformers and I’m having a blast!!!

I finally have Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes and a physical edition of Sea of Stars to add to my legendary JRPG backlog, but my focus on Unicorn Overlord still takes precedence over everything else. Good stuff in the eShop this week too: Bread & Fred, Hauntii and Paper Trail are available with advance notice.
I game of the week, with a bit of a surprise, is Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. I’m enjoying the little differences from the GameCube version and I’m a little jealous of people discovering this entry for the first time. Make no mistake, this isn’t just the final entry in the series, it’s quite possibly one of the best games I’ve played in my life. Now, if they would just add a new mode to play the whole thing as Mr. L…
