Since Nintendo's Switch 2 was announced last week, multiple companies have revealed that they'll be supporting this next-gen hybrid system. Now Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has officially confirmed Xbox support.
Speaking on the Gamertag Radio podcast this week, Spencer mentioned that Microsoft is “very excited” to support Nintendo with the Xbox software library. This continues Xbox's mission to bring “more” of the tech giant's games to “more platforms”:
Phil Spencer: “I want everyone to be able to play on Xbox, and that means more of our games delivered on multiple platforms, not just PlayStation – we love the work we're doing with Nintendo, we love what we're doing with Valve on Steam, and that's going To be continued, continue we will do it more. “
Spencer also admitted he's been in touch with Nintendo president Shuntara Furukawa since the Switch 2 reveal – mentioning how he gave him “huge congratulations” while noting how his “older eyes appreciated the bigger screen.”
The Xbox boss also took the opportunity to compliment Nintendo on its innovation, significance in the industry over the years and “the moves they're making” – adding that he thinks the Switch 2 will be a “massive success”:
“Who would ever bet against the success of that team, I mean, they're just masterful at what they do, the Switch is a huge success and I think the Switch 2 will be as well.”
While there is still no announcement for the Switch 2, on the Microsoft front – Xbox has struck a deal to revive the Call of Duty series on Nintendo platforms. Rumors have also been floating around this week about the latest Diablo game potentially coming to the Switch 2.
Last year, Xbox released multiple titles on Switch and PlayStation, including games like Earth and Sea of thieves.
