The launch of a new family of processors is always accompanied by new motherboards, sometimes the changes are radical and require the complete renovation of the computer, in other cases it is improved versions of existing motherboards that maintain the compatibility with the previous socket, as is the case with the Intel Z590, but which adds support for key new technologies.
A few days before the start of CES, when Intel will present its new Rocket Lake-S architecture and associated chipset, we are already starting to see information about ASUS and GIGABYTE cards based on it, the Z590.
El Z590 Chipset
The new generation of Intel motherboards come with the new Z590 chipset, which is a minor evolution of the Z490, as it supports socket processors LGA1200 and therefore not only the tenth generation processors from Intel can be installed, but also the eleventh generation about to be launched on the market, which uses the same type of socket.
The main novelty of Z590 chipset supports PCIe version 4.0, but only 11th generation processors based on the Intel Rocket Lake-S architecture They can take advantage of it.
What the new chipset won’t support is the upcoming twelfth-generation Intel Core, which will use the LGA1700 socket and therefore require new motherboards.
ASUS motherboards with Z590 chipset
In total, the images of four motherboards were filtered. which are the following: ASUS ROG Maximus Extreme 13 Glacial, ASUS ROG Maximus, 13 heroes, ASUS Prime Z590-A, and ASUS TUF Z590-PLUS WIFI.
Z590 MAXIMUX XIII EXTREME GLACIAL, is the most advanced ASUS motherboard with Z590 chipset, it is similar to ASUS Z490 GUNDAM and it is a motherboard with a form factor E-ATX, which comes with a Integrated monoblock EK. As for the ASUS ROG Maximus XIII Hero, that includes two dual 8-pin EATX12V connectors, which are an improvement over the 8 + 4 pin configuration of its predecessor based on the Z490 chipset.
ASUS is expected to present these new motherboards at CES in the coming days.
GIGABYTE Z590 AORUS Xtreme
While in the case of ASUS motherboards we have only known small details and pictures of their new motherboard line, in the case of GIGABYTE we have been able to know more details about their first motherboard with chipset Z590: GIGABYTE Z590 AORUS Xtreme . Which is powered by a connector of 24 pin ATX type
Regarding expansion capacities, we have 3 PCIe 4.0 16 lane slots, two of them provided by the Southbridge integrated into the Intel Rocket Lake-S processor that we install, while the third comes via the Z590 chipset itself. Regarding storage expansion, we have 3 slots for M.2 NVMe nightclubs with interface PCIe, but only one of them is PCIe 4.0, which is connected to the PCIe 4.0 interface of the CPU itself, the rest is PCIe 3.0, and the interface is provided by the chipset.
Regarding connectivity, a radio is integrated Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) on 6 GHz, one port Thunderbolt 4, 2 USB 3.2 ports and one LAN port with 10GbE and 2.5GbE support. Additionally, GIGABYTE has revamped the built-in sound card as it now uses the Realtek ALC4080 CODEC.
He also fled. As you can see above these lines, the prices of three more GIGABYTE motherboards based on Intel’s Z590 chipset, all of which are expected to be presented in the middle of this January.
