It has been known for some time that Google has decided to stop the development of its range of tablets.
In November, Android Authority suggested that the upcoming Pixel Tablet 2 had been canceled, unlike the Pixel Tablet 3 reported in a previous Android Headlines article.
If true, that means there won't be a successor to 2023's Pixel tablet, which became available without a dock earlier this year.
However, details of what might have happened have since emerged. According to a new article from Android Authority, the product was at one point supposed to have a better display in the form of a 10.95-inch LCD, with the same image resolution as its predecessor but double the rate refresh rate at 120 Hz.
Other upgrades included a new Tensor G4 processor – the latest Pixel system chip Google makes with Samsung. Starting with Pixel 10, the Tensor G5 should instead be developed on a TSMC process node.
Elsewhere, the Pixel Tablet 2 might also have had an upgraded 11MP rear camera and was supposed to be released in two different models: one with 5G and one without. It is unclear whether docked and dockless versions were to continue.
However, none of that seems to matter now, as it looks like Google has canceled the Pixel tablet for good. The original is still available for purchase on Google's website, but our guides to the best tablets and the best Android tablets have plenty of alternatives.
