Not so long ago we were telling you about Corsair MP700 Gen5the first PCI Express 5.0 SSD from the brand which promised speeds of up to 10,000 MB/s in reading and 9,500 MB/s in writing, the fastest to date. However, we will have to wait to buy it because it seems that Corsair will (at least) delay its launch date, since they have removed their presentation video from the platform and the information on the device has disappeared.
It seems that storage drives with a PCI-Express 5.0 interface have a harder time being operational and available to users. There doesn’t seem to be any obvious reason for this, but the fact is that despite the interface having been in the market for months now and ready to support next-gen drives, the launch of these becomes more difficult than necessary.
Corsair’s fastest SSD lags behind
With theoretical speeds of 10 GB/s read and 9.5 GB/s write, it is not only the manufacturer’s fastest SSD, but also one of the fastest SSDs on the market, and these speeds still do not sublimate the maximum that the interface is able to offer. The trade-off for that is that they also require an advanced cooling system due to the heat they generate, and we’ve already seen images of this Corsair MP700 Gen5 which not only has a big heatsink, but also a built-in fan for active cooling.
Of course, the downside is that to get the most out of this SSD, you need to have a next-gen system, be it Intel (with the Z790 chipset) or AMD (with its latest generation AM5), even if it is true that they have backward compatibility to be able to work in systems with PCIe 4.0 interface, logically reducing its speed.
Initially, these Corsair MP700 Gen5 SSDs also offer random speeds of up to 1.5 million read IOPS and 1.7 million write IOPS, and were initially only expected to come in 2TB capacities with a durability of 1,400 ToW and a price starting from $330, not too expensive considering the novelty they represent. However, for some reason Corsair seems to have eliminated all traces of this unit, and in fact they have even hidden or eliminated the presentation video that we could see a few weeks ago in which they hinted that its launch was going to be imminent.
The reason? It is unknown because the manufacturer gave no explanation. We don’t mean to be alarmist and think this is just a delay to polish the signature of the unit before release, but as of now there isn’t even a confirmed date when we can. buy it for our teams. So, unfortunately, we will have to wait for the manufacturer to move again and announce the launch of this new device, which owners of the latest generation Intel or AMD platforms will surely be waiting for to maximize the performance of their systems.
