Disney Plus is going to change very soon, and that’s thanks to the incorporation of Star, a new section of the platform in diffusion which will bring content to your library from, for example, the US content service Hulu.
In this article, you’ll find all the information you need to know about Star, including its release date, the additional price you’ll need to pay for your Disney + membership, a list of upcoming movies and series, and much more.
What is Disney + Star?
To put it bluntly: Star is the international equivalent of Hulu. It will be the platform for the most mature content from Disney-owned companies like ABC, FX, Freeform, Searchlight, 20th Century Studio, and 20th Television.
However, unlike Hulu, this will be a section within the Disney Plus page, and not a platform for diffusion own. Thus, it will be one more “brand” within the service like Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star War and National Geographic.
Initially, Disney had considered expanding Hulu outside of the United States as its own service. However, last May its CEO, Bob Chapek, announced that plans had changed as Hulu was not famous overseas.
The use of the “Star” brand made much more sense as it already had a significant presence in other international markets such as Asia, where it is known as the Star Network. Disney bought the brand in 2019 as part of Fox for $ 71 billion.
Now that Star is part of Disney +, you can enjoy shows like Lost, Grey’s Anatomy O Atlanta, and movies like the franchise The crystal jungle. Plus, the original productions are expected to come later.
When will Star have a premiere in Europe and Latin America?
Star’s launch date in Europe (and the rest of Europe) has already been announced: the February 23, 2021. Latin American citizens will have to wait a little longer, as its premiere is not scheduled until next June.
Will the price of Disney + increase with the addition of Star?
In short, yes. Disney + subscriptions will change on February 23. Fortunately, this price increase will only affect those who already have a subscription a few months later (more precisely, until August 23).
In Europe, the monthly price will drop from $ 6.99 per month to $ 8.99 per month, while annual subscriptions will increase by $ 20 each year, in particular, from $ 69.99 to $ 89.99 per year. You can skip the download if you subscribe to Disney + before February 23.
Unfortunately, if you only want a Disney + membership to access family content, there’s no way to bypass the download and still pay for the content currently on the platform. The prices will be the same whether you want Star or not.
What content will be available on Star?
According to the Disney + website, Star will arrive with around 450 new titles, including well-known movies and TV series. The company says that by the end of the year, the section will already have around 1,000 new titles.

What original productions will come to Star?

Before the end of the year, Star will release 35 original titles, and there are two that will already be available on launch day on February 23. Here is the suspense series Big sky and Love, Victor, another series that follows Love, Simon
How to download Star?
You don’t have to worry. In order to enjoy all the Star content, you will not have to download another app, since you will find it in the one you already use to access Disney +. You can do this from next February 23 as long as you are connected to the Internet.
Can Star content be disabled on Disney +?
While you can’t prevent Star content from arriving in your Disney + app, you can turn it off using Parental Controls so your kids can’t access this more mature content. These limits on profiles and access passwords will arrive with Star in February.
