It seems that Samsung is preparing a surprise for us in early 2025 in the form of a new smart ring.
We previously reported in early November that the Galaxy Ring 2 might arrive sooner, but this time we know a more specific date.
As the brand prepares for its much-anticipated Galaxy Unpacked event, which is scheduled to take place on January 22, the flagship event is expected to unveil not only the Galaxy S25 series but also the second generation of Samsung's Smart Ring.
Samsung's first-generation Galaxy Ring was revealed in several stages, with surprise teasers at the Galaxy S24 series launch in January 2024, a showcase at MWC in February, followed by a full launch in July.
On the other hand, the Galaxy Ring 2 could simply launch earlier in the year rather than arriving in the summer to create a 12-month refresh cycle. Samsung could also launch its first XR headset at the Unpacked event.
The strategic move reflects Samsung's intention to position the Ring 2 as a direct competitor to Oura, which has sold more than 2.5 million smart rings since its inception in 2013. It recently launched the Oura Ring 4 .

Previously, popular leaker Max Jambor announced that the original Galaxy Ring would receive two additional sizes: size 14 (SM-Q514) weighing 3.2g and measuring 23mm in inner diameter, plus size 15 (SM-Q515) weighing 3.2 g and measuring 23.8. mm internal diameter.
However, DigiTimes is now reporting that these additional sizes will actually be available on the Galaxy Ring 2, not the original Galaxy Ring. That would bring the total number to 11, although that's still not the size range offered by competitor Oura Ring 4.
Significant upgrades could also include more accurate health data sensors, improved AI-based features, and an expected battery life of more than seven days.
Despite these advancements, there is no confirmation whether NFC support will be included in this iteration.
