MachineGames has already released the first patch for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (you can see our analysis here), and since the game is made available to users starting today, we can say that this is the typical “day one patch”. However, it has already become controversial due to the fact that it allows Path tracing for users who have a chart of Nvidiabut this leaves the holders of a graph of AMD. Let's explain it.
In fact, although we have already analyzed the new Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, it is because they gave us access to the game beforehand and this means that, although we were able to test it, we did not could not see such remarkable features. like specifically Path Tracing, which is available now. Well, that's if we were using an NVIDIA graphics card, of course…
Indiana Jones leaves AMD users without FSR
As the developer explains in the patch notes, “full ray tracing (Path Tracing) has been added for supported NVIDIA graphics cards. To use this feature, a graphics card with a minimum of 12 GB VRAM is required. “We are also working on adding support for AMD FSR in a future update.” Future update, you know, so for now nothing at all.
As you can see in the embedded video above, the visual difference when using Path Tracing is quite interesting, especially in a game like this that supports ray tracing in shadows, reflections and even indirect lighting, parameters which can be modified as desired in the graphical interface. options in the game. Of course, as you'll probably realize if you watch this video, an RTX 4080 suffers quite a bit with all these settings enabled, and the FPS practically drops by half.
This is one of the reasons why AMD users will look forward to the implementation of FSR technology in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, because it is a way that, as we have seen in many other occasions, allows you to play at a high level. of frames per second without sacrificing graphic quality, something that significantly improves the gaming experience… and the truth is that having pretty top graphics and having to play at just over 30 FPS is quite unfortunate.
This day one patch also fixes a good handful of issues and bugs from the preview build, which is the one we played, but it also adds some pretty cool extra options, like the “reset values” option. in the Options menu. Anyway, practically everything in this patch is intended to fix the problems found in the initial version, which is why it is more than recommended, whether you have an NVIDIA or AMD graphics card, to install it.
And if your graphics card is AMD, you will then have to wait a little longer (probably one or two weeks) to be able to take advantage of it properly.
