Do you want you to be able to communicate transparently with someone who speaks a different language? Well, you can now, with a little help from Google Gemini.
At Google I / O 2025, the company confirmed that it brought the translation of speech to Google Meet.
This means that you can speak in your mother tongue, then have it translated and read aloud to the other in a few seconds. The dubbing begins in a few seconds of your departure, which means that the other person listens to what you say while you are always talking about.
When they answer, you will only hear the version you can understand, which should allow a more natural conversation. Google even claims that your voice, your tone and your expression can be preserved, and the official demo certainly suggests that it is possible:
The functionality is very similar to the “interpreter” tool within the Microsoft teams, which also works in real time and aims to maintain the flow of speech. For all those who are regularly in contact with residents of other countries around the world, this could change the situation.
Initially, the functionality will only be available in English and in Spanish, but the Italian, the German and the Portuguese will be added in the “weeks to come”. A beta version will first take place on Google AI Pro or AI Ultra Plan Abunds, before a larger launch later this year.
