Google has served applications of its Android App Store, with about half a success in the past year.
A new techcrunch report (using appfigure figures) notes that from early 2024 to today, Google Play has increased from 3.4 million applications worldwide to around 1.8 million applications. It is a loss of 47% of the applications available for Android users.
It is not a general trend either, because the iOS library of the Apple App Store increased slightly during the same period, from 1.6 million to 1.64 million applications.
Why do Android applications disappear?
The shorter and more lax applications review process has led to a proliferation of poor quality scam applications and even on the Google Play Store.
The number of applications has made more difficult for the real article of developers who work hard to stand out.
This led Google to increase its minimum requirements for application applications in July 2024 – Smack Bang in the middle of the period in question. From that moment, Google announced that it would cause applications that had “features and limited content” rather than being simply broken.
What does Google say about the drop in applications?
In response to this survey, Google also revealed that it had invested in the detection of AI threats to reduce hostile applications on the Play Store, as well as to institute stronger confidentiality laws.
The result of these combined measures is that the company has rejected applications of 2.36 million amazing applications and prohibited more than 158,000 developer accounts – all preventing potentially harmful applications or violating policies from being made available to Android users.
However, a last point should be noted: the versions of the application increased by 7.1% over a year in April. Hopefully this indicates a resurgence of superior quality applications and games rather than a return to the days of the far west of the Google Play Store.
