From April 1, 2024, Sky will increase its prices (and no, it’s not an April fool’s joke). The price change affects customers on standard TV, phone and broadband packages across the UK.
Sky started sending communications to customers in February (via USwitch), so you should have been contacted by now if the price change applies to you. If this is not the case (for example, if you have a special promotional contract), you should have nothing to worry about. Sky says the average price increase for affected customers will be around 6.7%..
This price increase is in line with inflation and may also reflect new features and services rolled out or planned for its portfolio.
If you’re not ready to pay more for your contract, we’ve got everything you need to know.
How to cancel your Sky contract
The process and whether or not you pay a fee to leave will differ depending on how advanced the contract is and what is included in your package. If you have already reached the minimum duration of your TV, broadband or telephone contract, so leaving without penalty should not be a problem.
If you are still within your minimum contract limits for broadband or telephoneyou can only leave without penalty if you cancel within 30 days of being informed of the price increase.
Unfortunately, if you are still within your minimum contract for a TV package, then you will not be able to leave a penalty without penalty. However, you may still be able to haggle with Sky to get a better deal.
You can start Sky’s cancellation process on their website, by calling them on 0330 041 3875 or by writing to them by post.
Additionally, Ofcom makes it very clear that customers are allowed to end a contract early if the provider increases its prices without prior warning.
If you’re on contract, you can either call Sky directly and ask for a better deal, or leave Sky and look for a better deal elsewhere.
