It's really amazing to have PC problems and have no idea where they are coming from. Also, the funny thing about when computer RAM fails, is that sometimes the symptoms make us think that failure is coming from the other side.
Signs that RAM has failed
It's normal that if there is a problem with RAM, there are no visible symptoms: PC has started correctly, we can start apps or games without any problem … however it makes us think something is wrong, there must be something to worry about. Common signs that RAM has problems they are:
- PC does several threads When we open it
- PC has been running for a long time, slowly everything goes and it forces us to restart.
- We have IBSOD (blue screens) suddenly when programs or games start.
- The program do not allow us to access other files from a hard drive or SSD claim to be corrupt.
As you will imagine, many of these symptoms will make us think that the problem is in another gene. For example, the most obvious one is that it does not allow us to access the files on the disk that tells us to be corrupt, since we can assume that the broken one is a direct disk. However, when we open the file it is uploaded to RAM, and having problems doing this shows that the problem may be direct.
Windows 10 can check RAM
There are many programs, and many of them free of charge, that will allow us ccheck the RAM status or rather check if you have any errors or problems. However, perhaps we might find ourselves in a situation where the problems we have are preventing us from installing or using the programs, fortunately Windows 10 has its own tool which will allow us to verify the RAM status without having to add anything extra.
This tool is called «Windows Memory Diagnosis«, And to access it we will only have to click on the start button in Windows 10 and type« mdsched »(without ratings).
When using this tool, a window will open asking us if we want to restart the computer now to look for problems, and schedule its operation the next time we start the PC. This is because in order to check the RAM life, it must be as "downloaded" as possible, and the way to do this is to use it before the operating system and programs are loaded into memory.
After selecting the option we like, when the device restarts, the blue menu will appear asking if we want to do basic, general or extended research.
This is one of the following ways:
- Basic: Evaluation of MATS +, INVC performance and SCHCKR performance with active memory.
- Normal: Run the previous test by adding LRAND, Stride6, CHCKR3, WMATS + and WINVC tests.
- Expanded: All of the above but can be added Stride38, WSCHCKR, WStride6, CHCKR4, WCHCKR3, erand and CHCKR8, and in this case are disabled cache.
The basic level is the least costly, while the extended tests are many and will take longer (many hours). Once you have selected the option you like, the system will start looking at RAM.
When the diagnostic test is complete the PC will automatically restart, so you can see the results event viewer Windows To do this, we can click on the start and type «event viewer» or press WIN + R and write eventvwr.msc and accept the application directly.
Within the event viewer, we should go to the "Windows Registries" and "System" section on the left. We can sort by event number 1101 or in the "Origin" column, look for events with "MemoryDiagnostics-Results". There we will see if an error was detected during the test.
